Wine 101—Part 1
OK, how does that photo look, if the intent is to say wine is approachable? Wine is fun? Wine is not intimidating?
What you are seeing is Prosecco (an Italian sparkling wine), along with mimosas made with Prosecco and orange juice, cheese, fruit, and chocolates for breakfast—overlooking the pool at Villa Montecucco in the Tuscany (Toscana) region of Italy. We had a great time later that day exploring the top Brunello producers in the area.
But you don't have to be in Toscana, or Bordeaux, or the Barossa, or Sonoma, to start enjoying wine. You can do it at your breakfast table, with your evening meal, or in a comfy chair looking out the window of your apartment. That's the point: wine is part of everyday life—and it shouldn't be snobby, intimidating, or inaccessible!
So, think of the Wine 101 series on The Sojourning Somm's website as your online introduction to wine. Some of these posts were first published in Greg Gerber's RVers' newsletter, Let's RV. Since The Sojourning Somm lives in a 40' motorhome (see "About") and knows a lot of RVers love wine, Greg suggested this series. He was kind enough to allow reposting of material written for Let's RV here.
So, pour a glass of your favorite wine, follow the Wine 101 posts, and let's explore wine basics and beyond. You'll find other posts mixed in, along the way, as Susan & I explore Texas wines or come upon other topics that are interesting. But you'll know the introduction to wine series by the "Wine 101" headings.
Until next time, cheers!
