First Forays into Texas Wine
This post is only a start, because Susan & I have just begun to explore Texas wines. The fact that Texas actually produces wine came to my attention in 2001 on a motorcycle trip across the U.S. Until now, there has been no opportunity to return.
Having studied a map of Texas Hill Country wineries, we're eager to drive across US 290 west of Austin, where a number of wineries are located. Duchman is near the top of our list, based on their Montepulciano we enjoyed. McPherson Cellars (pictured), in Lubbock, is another planned destination, when we can venture a bit farther from Texas Hill Country. McPherson, with 40 years history and led by winemaker and UC Davis graduate Kim McPherson, is among the pioneers of Texas winemaking.
Check back with the Sojourning Somm. We plan to offer a survey of Texas wineries visited, along with tasting notes and a list of our personal favorites.
